About Me
A lifelong animal lover, right here in the Tendring Hundred area
Hi, I'm Iona
I've been surrounded by animals for as long as I can remember, and caring for them has always been a huge part of who I am. There's nothing I enjoy more than seeing a happy dog enjoying an adventure, exploring new scents, and heading home with a wagging tail. I founded Trails and Tails Pet Care because I wanted to provide a service that puts both pets and their owners first. I understand how important it is to find someone you can trust with your dog's care, and I believe every pet deserves individual attention rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. When it comes to looking after other people's animals, I take my responsibilities seriously. That's why I've invested in professional qualifications, canine first aid training, and industry memberships to ensure I'm always expanding my knowledge and keeping up with best practices. Ongoing education is incredibly important to me, as the more I learn, the better care I can provide for the dogs entrusted to me.
Building strong relationships with both dogs and their owners is at the heart of everything I do. Before any walks begin, I like to get to know each dog, their routine, personality, likes, dislikes, and any specific needs they may have. This helps me create a positive experience that is tailored to them and allows owners to feel confident that their pet is in caring and capable hands. Alongside running Trails and Tails Pet Care, I train alongside professional dog trainers in Ipswich where I can continue to expand my experience within the canine industry, working closely with dogs of different breeds, ages, temperaments, and training levels. Every dog teaches me something new, and that's one of the many reasons I love what I do so much. For me, this isn't just a job. It's a genuine passion. Whether I'm taking your dog on their favourite walk, providing companionship while you're away, or simply making sure they receive the care and attention they deserve, my goal is always the same: happy pets, peace of mind for owners, and plenty of wagging tails along the way.
What matters to me
Your animal's wellbeing first
Your pet's wellbeing always comes first. I take the time to ensure every walk is safe, enjoyable, and suited to your dog's individual needs. I only walk dogs from the same household and never compromise on safety or quality of care.
Honesty and transparency
I'll always tell you how your dog got on — the good and the not-so-good. You'll get regular updates, photos, and an honest account of every session.
Based in the Tendring Hundred area
I know the local coastline and countryside inside out. I know the best spots for a proper sniff, the quietest paths for nervous dogs and the safest beaches for a paddle.
Positive methods only
I believe in patience, encouragement, and reward. I never use punishment or aversive techniques — only positive reinforcement that builds confidence and trust.

Level 3 Diploma in Caine Care, Welfare and Behaviour (completed)
As part of my Level 3 Diploma in Canine Care, Welfare and Behaviour, I have studied a wide range of topics designed to improve my understanding of dogs and their needs. The course covers canine legislation, the origins and evolution of dogs, how dogs learn and respond to training, canine behaviour and body language, and the causes of fear, stress, and aggression. It also includes canine first aid, puppy development, basic grooming, welfare, environmental enrichment, disease prevention, safe handling techniques, and best practices for walking and transporting dogs safely. This knowledge helps me provide safe, welfare-focused care while understanding each dog's individual needs, behaviour, and wellbeing.
Level 6 Diploma in Clinical Canine Behaviour (in progress)
I will be starting this diploma in late October/early November with the Canine Behaviour College. This diploma will allow me to become a Canine Behaviourist and help owners with dogs who have behavioural issues.
